Yep, it’s finally here
It’s been almost a year since the last official release of the game. Version 1.20 for Mac is now here, and it brings a wealth of new features and improvements. See the change log for more details on what’s new.
The main focus of this update is more specifically targeted towards the Mac, addressing problems occurring with the installer & running MBG and MBP interchangeably. (hopefully for good)
This version’s installer has been tested and is fully native from Mac OS X 10.3 through to 10.6.
I’ve written it from the ground up (in Cocoa) and it’s been built as a Universal binary, so it’s very compatible. It supports the three main versions of MarbleBlast Gold, which are:
- the version bought from GarageGames (note: GG no longer owns the intellectual property to MarbleBlast and therefore does not offer it on their website)
- the version bundled with Apple’s iMacs & iBooks during 2004
- the version bought from Mac Game Store
If you’re using 10.1 or 10.2 and if you have another Mac with a later version of OS X, I’d recommend installing the game on that first, then moving it to the older computer and it should work just fine.
Troubleshooting / questions
Also, the installer will only copy settings from a previous version of MarbleBlast Platinum that has already been installed. Custom levels’ times may not display as previously they saved incorrectly, and this update fixes that.
If the installer throws an error while installing, try perhaps repairing your disk permissions, and delete the ‘MarbleBlast Platinum’ folder within <username> -> Applications.
Once you’re playing the game, you may encounter some problems with custom levels not showing their parts – this is mainly because the game’s content no longer belongs in the ‘marble’ folder, and instead a new ‘platinum’ folder. Download the FAQ for more details (it will eventually be a proper page on the website).
The Windows version
I’m very sorry Windows users… but your update will be more focused on improving the leaderboards / some other things. All of the features that are in this just-released version will definitely be available in the Windows version. An estimated date for release is late-January.
Enjoy! Have a Merry Christmas and a great New Year
Phil, and the Platinum team

Can u please update leaderboard chat so that it would be possible to use skandinavian alphabets Ö, Å, and Ä because they are very common alphabets in skandinavia + Germany.

Hey, will MBP ever have LB for Mac? :/

Unfortunately not, however in the meantime you can run the Windows version through Wine (see here for a number of methods to install it: http://wiki.winehq.org/MacOSX/Installing )
You can also try CrossOver if you prefer a more user friendly alternative – it’s based on Wine.

If you read the latest post, we admit we’re not always exact on dates.
I probably haven’t made this clear, but lately I’ve felt less interested in marbleblast, and the team is more focused and interested working on PlatinumQuest (the next major release of the game). So I can’t be exact on a date when this will release.

Maybe Marble Blast Platinum version 12.1 (If there is one) should be also made in French, Spanish, German, Italian and Dutch.
September 10th, 2011 at 1:33 pm
Maybe 1.21 should have Marble Blast Platinum already installed when downloaded (i.e. comes with MBG). It should also work with Intel processors! (sob) If only Marble Blast was back in the GarageGames website.

We can’t
GarageGames got shut down by their owner IAC, where they (most likely) took the intellectual property for MBG. So unfortunately we can’t be sure if it’s public domain or not.

Can The Platinum Team make PQ in French, German, Portuguese and Spanish as well as English?
November 22nd, 2011 at 6:40 pm
i cant donload marble blast platinum
November 27th, 2011 at 2:53 pm
Let me guess: Mac OS 10.0 isn’t listed there because Marble Blast requires 10.1 or later.

Joe: About the languages: as far as I know, the team have considered multilingual support.
In regard to OS compatibility, yes that’s right. But the 1.20 installer (not the actual game) requires at least 10.3 (Panther). I could try to support lower than that, but hardly anyone uses the older versions of OS X nowadays.

Dear Phil,
I am sorry if I have sent this more than once. I am getting weird messages from the web that makes me afraid I am not getting through!
MBP has been great! It is fun, action-packed, relatively quiet, challenging and not violent. The kids have not played it for a while but they have returned to our eMac and now MBP won’t work. Can you help?
Question one: Marble Blast Gold works fine on our G4 eMac OS 10.5.8. When I install MBP, the installation seems to go smoothly. But when I launch MBP, I only get the sound track (music) and not the graphics. Is there anything I can do?
Question two: I also have an Intel iMac 10.8.2. Neither Marble Blast Gold nor Platinum work on it. Are these games Intel only?
Question Three: Should Marble Blast Gold (or Platinum) always be located in particular folders to work? Thanks!
Yours in blasting,
Dan D’Errico

Hi Dan!
When you post a comment, it has to get approved by me before it appears on the site. It didn’t look like you sent a duplicate either.
Q1: I’m not really sure – try posting a thread in the Support forums at http://marbleblast.com. They will likely ask you to post a file called “console.log”. In the Finder, you can find this by opening the Go menu and choosing “Go to Folder…”. Then enter “~/Library/MarbleBlast” (without the quotes). In there is where it should be.
Q2: The games have never been Intel-only. All except the latest version (1.6u) are PowerPC-only. 1.6u is a “Universal binary”, meaning it runs on both. However GarageGames lost the legal rights to MarbleBlast and no longer offer it for download on their website unfortunately. I would post an installer to download 1.6u here, however it contains the full game and I’m not sure if that’s okay to do.
Also on 10.8.x, going full-screen seems to crash the game. If this happens, you can fix it by: in the Finder’s Go menu choose “Go to Folder…”. Then without the quotes enter “~/Library/MarbleBlast/platinum/client”, and open mbpPrefs.cs in a text editor. Search for “$pref::Video::fullScreen” without the quotes, change the found line’s corresponding ’1′ to a ’0′, and save. Relaunch the game and it should be contained within a window.
Q3: It doesn’t matter where they’re found.
Hope that helps!
